Exhibit audits and recommendations
With many of the projects I have delivered I have provided ongoing support to the client post delivery. This has included training and mentoring staff, advising on maintenance and helping with staff recruitment. Exhibits wear out, especially popular ones. If they don’t it’s probably because they aren’t very good. Another service I provide is evaluating a clients exhibit offer, writing reports, studying audience engagement and putting forward costed suggestions for improvement.

Scitech Science Centre, Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. This science centre was built in 2004 and little had been done to update any of the exhibits when I audited six of their seven galleries fourteen years later (in 2018). I evaluated and reported on over 300 hands-on exhibits as well as many touchscreens and video kiosks and made costed recommendations for the replacement of more than 40% of the exhibits.

Mishkat Centre for Atomic and Renewable Energy - King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. After designing and overseeing the build of the exhibits at Mishkat I was asked by the director to help recruit a maintenance team and give them ongoing support. I performed an audit of the exhibits a year after opening to identify which exhibits might need updating or replacing. I then mentored their staff helping them develop the skills to deliver a set of new exhibits.
